Hubert Lamy — Saint-Aubin Producer Profile

Producers · Burgundy

Domaine Hubert Lamy.

The Saint-Aubin producer who made the appellation a serious destination — and stayed honest about price.

About the estate

Saint-Aubin from limestone, on the ridge above Chassagne.

Domaine Hubert Lamy has been the most-talked-about producer in Saint-Aubin for the better part of two decades. The family farms about 18 hectares across the commune, with prized parcels on the Premier Cru sites En Remilly, Les Murgers des Dents de Chien, and La Châtenière — all on limestone bedrock identical to what sits one ridge over in Chassagne-Montrachet.

Olivier Lamy, who has run the estate since 1995, is methodical. Yields are low. Vineyard work is meticulous. The wines are bottled with the kind of attention you would expect from a Grand Cru estate, but at village-and-1er-Cru prices that have not yet caught up to the quality of the wine.

House style

Cut, mineral lift, and a slow stony finish.

Lamy whites are precise and structural. Subtle oak (mostly used barrels), bright acid, and a finish that stays mineral-driven rather than tropical. Drinking windows for Premier Cru are typically eight to fifteen years from vintage, with the structured years (2014, 2017, 2022) rewarding longer cellaring.

The Saint-Aubin reds are quietly excellent — under-shadowed by the whites, but worth knowing for serious Burgundy drinkers who want texture and freshness without the price tax of Vosne or Chambolle.
