New Barolo & Barbaresco crus from Vietti. Monthly features tasting Weds. 6/29.

What could be more exciting than the arrival of new releases from one of our favorite Italian producers, Vietti! This week’s newsletter features eight new wines from this storied Barolo property where Luca Currado, one of the most beloved winemakers in the appellation, has been making some of Piedmont’s most highly rated wines for decades now.

We are particularly geeked about the highly allocated single vineyard-designate wines, “cru” wines as they are known (borrowing from the French for growth or vineyard).

Check out the Barolo Cerequio and Barolo Monvigliero, two of Barolo’s most famous parcels. But Nebbiolo insiders will also recognize one of Barbaresco’s most highly acclaimed vineyards where another top producer also sources his Barbaresco (hint, hint!), the Barbaresco Roncaglie Masseria. It’s the ultimate collectible.

Of course, if you’re looking for something more approachable in terms of cost, Vietti also makes a top expression of Dolcetto, the grape that the Piedmontese like to drink at dinner (after all, you can’t drink Nebbiolo every night!). Dolcetto is such a wonderfully food-friendly wine and it’s a favorite wine to pour with hamburgers or classic meat-sauce pastas.
