Artuke displays a vibrant, concentrated ruby hue.  You will be charmed by its expressive aromas of pomegranate and red cherry. The fruit layers intermix with licorice and a savory, earthy note. This wine is supple and mouth filling with a balancing acidity and velvety tannins.  It is a modern style of Rioja with no oak influence.  The grapes are 95% Tempranillo and 5% Viura estate grown in Rioja Alavesa.  The wine was vivified in cement tanks rather than traditional oak aging.  This family-owned winery forgoes the Rioja DOC designation in order to make their wine in the fruit-forward style they desire.  The proprietors’ two sons are named Arturo and Kike, and “Artuke” is a combination of the their names.
