Venta la Vega “Aldaras Aldea” 2021, Almansa, Spain
Aldaras Aldea is a humble and gutsy red from Castile-La Mancha. It offers red fruits on a medium body with plenty of grip. It is a blend of 80% Garnacha Tintorrera and 20% Syrah, both organically grown and aged for 3 months in French oak. Raúl Pérez, one of Spain’s most visionary winemakers, consults for Venta la Vega. Garnacha Tintorera is a different grape from regular Grenache. Known in France as Alicante Bouschet, it is a cross of Petit Bouschet and Grenache and one of the few teinturier grapes whose flesh and juice are red in color due to anthocyanin pigments accumulating within the pulp of the grape berry itself. This results in a wine with impressively concentrated hue. Delicious casual burger wine and perfect with manchego or idiazabal.
