Vendaval Sauvignon Blanc, Chile 2020
With vineyards in Chile’s Maipo, Colchagua, and Maule Valleys, Vendaval crafts affordable wines that nonetheless speak of place. The hand-harvested Sauvignon Blanc grapes are destemmed and gently pressed in an atmosphere of inert gas, which protects them from oxidation. The juice is then fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks to continue to influence this wine to be lively and fresh. Just over a week’s time sitting on its lees lends additional flavor and texture. The nose is full of herbal and citrus notes, with white peach and green apples coming through on the palate. A bright, refreshing acidity carries through to its finish.
