Vendaval Chardonnay, Chile 2020
With vineyards in Chile’s Maipo, Colchagua, and Maule Valleys, Vendaval crafts affordable wines that nonetheless speak of place. The hand-harvested Chardonnay grapes are fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks then aged for just over a week’s time sitting on their lees. The absence of extended aging in oak is apparent. This is not a buttery Chardonnay. This is the kind of Chardonnay that will leave your mouth watering and works incredibly well with a variety of foods. The nose highlights the wine’s freshness, with green apples, passion fruit, citrus fruits, and a hint of almond. This is further shown on the palate, which is plush and vibrant, and leads into a refreshing finish.
