Spier “Million Trees” Cabernet Sauvignon 2018, Western Cape, South Africa

A beautifully balanced Cabernet Sauvignon offering ripe fruit, cherries, and oak spice that follow from nose to palate. It stains your glass garnet and wafts aromas of cherry jam, creme de cassis, and autumn leaves. This varietally correct Cabernet is medium-bodied and satisfying, with a finish that is slow to fade.  One-quarter of this Cabernet aged in French oak, while the remainder rested in stainless steel. Delicious with a hearty roast of beef or lamb with winter greens. This hails from one of the oldest wine farms in Stellenbosch, dating back to 1692.  They began branding under the Spier name in 1971.  The vineyards occupy both cool coastal and warmer inland sites.  The Million Trees project teaches people from some of the Cape’s poorest communities how to grow and care for indigenous trees and plants. They are given seedlings which are later exchanged for living essentials.
