Rilasso Montepulciano d’Abruzzo 2018

Cantina Levorato, the maker of the Rilasso wines was founded in 1928 in the well-known area of Riviera del Brenta. Montepulciano is a native red grape with ancient historical evidence as far back as Pliny (the Elder) and Horace, and recent studies have suggested probable Greek origins. The Levorato family harvest their Montepulciano from hillside vineyards and high plateaus of the Abruzzo Denomination, DOC. After the alcoholic fermentation has finished the wine remains for an additional 5-7 days on the skins in order to extract as much colour and aromas as possible. After the malolactic fermentation, the wine was aged on the lees to increase roundness and palate weight. The nose shows jammy blackcurrant notes mixed with raspberries, leather, and citrus zest. The perfect accompaniment to a variety of Italian dishes.
