We were delighted by this extroverted and charming liter-sized bottle. It wafts from the glass with expressive floral aromas, peaches, apples, and pears. Minerals and a balancing acidity keep the light-bodied palate bright and lively. This wine is just the slightest touch off-dry. It is a unique blend of Welshriesling, Riesling, Chardonnay, Furmint, and Pinot Blanc, all dry farmed. The terrain of the Štajerska region is made up of steep-sloped vineyards and narrow valleys. The soil composition here is diverse, but consists mainly of sand and clay over marl. Despite dating back to 1239, Haložan doesn’t take itself too seriously; they give you permission to make this quaffer into a spritzer. We also recommend enjoying it with carry out sushi, curried chicken salad, or spring rolls.
