Mourchon Châteauneuf-du-Pape Rouge 2020

Domaine de Mourchon, founded by the McKinlay family in 1998, is based in the southern Rhone village of Séguret. They craft their Châteauneuf-du-Pape from 60-80 year old grapes grown in sandy parcels in the esteemed La Crau lieu-dit. It is a blend of 70% Grenache, 20% Mourvedre, and 10% Syrah. The majority (70%) of this wine aged in demi-muid barrels for 12 months, while a portion rested in concrete vats. Mourchon’s Châteauneuf possesses a medium ruby hue with harmonious scents of ripe red fruits accented by spice. The palate is rich and elegant with a touch of oak. Enjoy solidly ripe and fleshy layers of black cherries, cassis, plums, and licorice on a medium body with velvety tannins. It has well-defined length lifted with balanced freshness. This is a terrific value for drinking now or cellaring for a few years.
