Mas de Libian ‘Khayyam’ Cotes-du-Rhone 2021
Mas de Libian comes from a family with wine in their blood. Jean-Pierre Thibon and his wife Jacqueline started the estate in 1995. They had three daughters, Hélène, Catherine, and Cécile, all of whom work in wine. Hélène and her husband Alain joined Mas de Libian immediately, followed later by Catherine and her son Auzélien, while Cécile does oenology research in Bordeaux. The Khayyâm is a traditional Southern Rhone blend of 75% Grenache, 15% Mourvèdre and 10% Syrah. Like all their wines, all the grapes are grown organically and biodynamically. Although it only makes up 10% of the blend, the Syrah takes center stage here, giving the wine a spiciness and dark fruit quality that makes it perfect for rich meals and cool weather.
