Lazeraies Tavel Rose 2023, France
Tavel is a Côtes-du-Rhône Village that uniquely specializes solely in rosé wine production. The hot, sunny, and dry climate and iconic round “galet” stones that cover the vineyards allow the Grenache, Cinsault, Syrah, and Mourvedre to fully ripen. This results in deeply colored, full-bodied rosés with undeniable power and complexity. Think of them as light reds that you get to drink lightly chilled.
Our newest arrival from this benchmark region is the 2023 Lazeraies Tavel. It is a blend of 50% Grenache, 30% Syrah, and 20% Carignan. With its brilliant ruby-salmon hue, this wine announces itself as a serious pink wine. It wafts from the glass with generous aromas of black raspberries. On the palate, it overdelivers generous flavors of berries intermixed with wild herbs that continue through the lingering finish. The concentrated fruit is balanced by a mouthwatering acidity. It’s tough to find values in Tavel, so we were especially impressed that Lauzeraies comes in at $22.98/bottle.
