La Quercia Aglianico 2022, Puglia, Italy
A rich garnet hue gives way to a juicy palate bursting with very ripe dark berries. Look for black plum, blackberry, and sweet tobacco. There is just enough acidity to balance out the jammy fruit and the tannins slowly build with subsequent sips. La Quercia is based in Abruzzo and branched out to include an estate in Puglia, the heel of Italy’s boot. These Aglianico grapes were organically and dry farmed. While this is less black-fruited and tannic than a textbook Aglianico, it is a much friendlier introduction to the grape. Pair it with sausage pizza, salami and pecorino, or roasted mushrooms.
