Familia Valdelana Rioja Blanco 2020
Bodegas Valdelana dates back to 1634 when Pedro Valdelana built one of the underground cellars that the winery still uses today. Pedro’s wine was only for personal consumption, but from this foundation a mighty winery grew. In 1950 a descendant with the same name of Pedro Valdelana expanded the family’s holdings in the area and in 1974 Isidoro Valdelana brought his family’s wines to market. Their blanco is made from 50% Malvasia and 50% Viura. The unusually high percentage of Malvasia creates a wine that is highly aromatic – bursting with notes of peach, pear, lychee, apple, quince, and pineapple – while the Viura brings a bright, crisp finish to the abundance of fruit.
