D’Oliveras 1977 Boal Vintage Madeira

Of all the producers of Madeira, D’Oliveira has the greatest library of old vintages. Director Luis D’Oliveira has been a staunch defender of long aging in cask and was among the first producers to add bottling dates to his back labels.

This 1977 vintage Boal was bottled in 2017. Boal is a medium-sweet Madeira. It’s decadent caramel sweetness is balanced by a lively acidity. In between powerful aromas and a lingering finish, look for citrus, fig, and savory balsamic notes. The more you engage the wine, the more different notes come out. The beauty of Madeira is how long it keeps after opening.  One bottle could give months, even years, of pleasure.
