Of all the producers of Madeira, D’Oliveira has the greatest library of old vintages. Director Luis D’Oliveira has been a staunch defender of long aging in cask and was among the first producers to add bottling dates to his back labels.
This 1973 was bottled in 2022. Verdelho is medium-dry.
Verdelho grapes yield what is arguably the most effortlessly balanced of Madeiras: lightly sweet and wonderfully balanced by acidity. This particular wine is a real gem, with a mouthwatering array of dried fruit flavors, subtle brown sugar and spice notes. You can have vintage Madeira open for many months, even years, without much noticeable degradation in quality.
