Darroze Bas-Armagnac “Château de Gaube” 1964

The Darroze family are an artisan éleveurs of Bas-Armagnac. Francis Darroze realized that Armagnac can be crafted just like wine: with a unique domain, no blending, and in small and perfectly traceable batches. This vision and devotion he shared with his son Marc, today at the helm of Armagnacs Darroze, offering a great variety of rare Armagnacs that highlight the work of local craftsmen. This bottling from their unique collection is from a single vintage and a single domaine. Each Bas-Armagnac is strictly itself, with the name of the domain of origin, its vintage and the bottling date which tells its real age as eaux-de-vie stop aging once bottled.

Description : The Morel family is originally from Switzerland, more precisely from the canton of Vaux near Lausanne. From 1956, the first distillations gave fine, distinguished and elegant Armagnacs. Monsieur Morel selects oak trees to build large vats in which the property’s Armagnacs will age for 40 years and more. The Baco grape variety is preferred and after years gives breathtaking results.

Orangey golden colour, with brown tints. The nose is still very fresh for an Armagnac of this age. Matured fruit flavours (quince, apple) on the first nose, while the second nose is marked by dried fruits (walnuts, almonds). On the palate, the balance is perfect, a sign that the ageing process has been perfectly controlled. High quality of tannins. Long on the palate. Gaube is a superb terroir.
