Dalla Valle Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley 2016
Dalla Valle Vineyards is recognized as one of Napa Valley’s preeminent family-run wineries. Founded in 1986 by Naoko and her late husband Gustav Dalla Valle, on the famed eastern hillsides of Oakville, Dalla Valle Vineyards has earned acclaim as one of world’s most celebrated wine estates, yielding wines of extraordinary character and complexity, vintage after vintage.
Today, Dalla Valle is guided by the mother-and-daughter team of Naoko and Maya Dalla Valle, who work alongside an illustrious team that includes Consulting Winemaker Andy Erickson, Vineyard Manager Edgar Alfaro, as well as Consulting Enologist Michel Rolland.
The 2016 estate Cabernet Sauvignon fires on all cylinders. The general level of quality in the Valley was very high, and the depth and intensity of the fruit from Dalla Valle’s rugged hillside reached even higher heights. Their careful handling of the grapes, both in the vineyard and in the winery, paid off, as the Cabernet Sauvignon is dark and showy, with a degree
of aromatic complexity and effusiveness that is the hallmark of our unique terroir. Immediately upon decanting, the room is filled with fruit and floral aromas—fresh-cut cherries, blackberries, blueberry pie, and orange blossom—along with earthier elements of dark roast coffee, wet slate, and underbrush. On the palate the wine is powerful, long, and tightly woven,
delivering waves of flavor and texture that linger for nearly a full minute. Given its power and aging potential, it is remarkable that this wine is so utterly enjoyable straight from the bottle in it youth. It should age for decades to come.
