Carciofo amari are made with artichoke leaves (Cynara scolymus), which impart bitter and vegetal notes. Created in 1949, Cynar is flavored with artichoke leaves and 12 additional botanicals. Look for flavors of bittersweet stewed vegetables, caramel, and toffee with quinine bitterness and a hint of connamon. Cynar (pronounced “chee-nhar”) is good served on the rocks with a slice of orange and soda.
