This right-bank Bordeaux is generous with ripe and concentrated red and black fruits such as cherry and blackcurrant accented by hints of vanilla, oak, and earth. It is satisfying with chewy tannins. Jules Monroux, the proprietor, is a 5th generation of winemaker in the Saint-Émilion area. Clos de l’Esperance is a little 15 acre vineyard on clay and limestone soils, which is ideal for producing top-quality Merlot.
