Château Mourgues du Grès ‘Galets Rouges’ Costières de Nîmes 2020

François Collard and his wife Anne returned to his family’s estate in 1990 after pursuing careers outside of the wine industry. With them they brought a new vision for an nature-oriented winery. The first step was obvious: begin farming the vineyards organically, with official certification coming in 2004. But beyond that they expanded the natural biodiversity of the surrounding area and adopted less interventionist winemaking practices. Their ‘Galets Rouges’ is named after the red stones found throughout the vineyards. The wine is predominantly Syrah and Grenache aged 12 to 15 months in concrete vats. A classic Southern Rhone profile of blackberries with red currants, with notes of dried herbs and fresh flowers.
