Château Jalousie Beaulieu 2019 Bordeaux Supérieur, France
This Bordeaux Supérieur over-delivers, pouring out a deep, dark ruby red and expressing bold aromas of ripe black fruits accented by mocha and smoked walnuts. This wine is extremely well-balanced, offering firm, but well-integrated tannins that ferry the dark fruits to a lengthy, complex finish. Crafted from 100% Merlot, the vineyards in and around Fronsac, on Bordeaux’s right Bank. Château Jalousie-Beaulieu was established in 1910 when winegrower and barrelmaker Pierre Auguste Duporge acquired 20 hectares of fragmented vineyards. Over the next 70 years, the property grew. Today, the estate is run by the father and son team of Philippe and Pierre Person, representing the fifth and sixth generation, where they sustainably farm 200 hectares planted on clay-limestone soils. 2019 was an outstanding vintage in Bordeaux, and you could cellar this for a decade. Delicious now with grilled bone-in ribeye crusted with blue cheese and balsamic shallots.
