Bodegas Ramírez de la Piscina is relatively new by Rioja standards, having been established in 1973 by Julio Ramírez de la Piscina. After significantly growing the company, Julio handed it over to his three children Cecilio, Julio, and Pillar. The winery itself is full of modern winemaking equipment but the style of their Rioja is very traditional. After the grapes are sorted by hand and fermented they are then aged in used American oak barrels. This brings a distinctly Rioja flavor of bourbon, coconut, and vanilla to the natural blackberry and cherry flavors of the Tempranillo grape. Throw a steak on the grill and enjoy!
