Benanti 2020 Etna Rosso

The Benanti family first moved to Sicily in 1734 and have been making wine from estate vineyards since 1890. In 1988, Giuseppe Benanti formed the winery, then named ‘Tenuta di Castiligione’. After milestones such as patents for isolated indigenous yeasts, the first Tre Bicchieri award for an Etna wine, and being named Italian Winery of the Year, Giuseppe’s sons Salvino and Antonio took charge of the estate in 2012. The Etna Rosso is 80-85% Nerello Mascalese and 15-20% Nerello Cappuccio, varietals native to the infamous volcano. Approximately 15% of this wine is aged in second passage French oak barriques for 8-10 months, while the rest of the wine matures in stainless steel. Pale ruby red color, red fruit aromas, and a mineral and harmonious palate.
