Jean-Charles Girard-Madoux’s vineyards are situated on the slopes of the Massif des Bauges, Southeast of Chambéry in Savoie. His family had a winery in the town center of Chignin for generations, but the domain was sold in 1976. Determined to reclaim his heritage, Jean-Charles studied oenology and viticulture in Beaune, finishing his education with a harvest at Domaine Patrice Rion in Burgundy. He repurchased his grandparents’ original 2.5 hectares in 2006, one month after graduation. It has since grown to 6.5 hectares planted to Jacquère, Mondeuse, Gamay and Roussanne. In early 2020, Alpine Wine Company collaborated with Jean-Charles to create Après, combining their mutual love of the outdoors, rustic gastronomy, and vin du soif. The Jacquère is exactly what you’d expect from the high-alpine white: low in alcohol with crisp acidity and nuanced aromatics. Perfect with fondue!
