This Mencía stands out as a terrific value. Violet-hued in the glass, swirling offers up scents of dried flowers and autumn leaves intermixed with red and black berries. Bright flavors of raspberry and pomegranate joined by dark chocolate and mint on a medium body with slightly elevated structure. Bierzo is located in a sheltered mountain valley in north-west Spain. The area is known for its distinctive red wines from the Mencía grape, which is best likened to the Cabernet Franc. This example is delicious with tapas and Serrano ham.
