Altos Las Hormigas ‘Clasico’ Malbec 2020

Altos Las Hormigas was founded in 1995 by a consortium of prominent Italian winemakers, including Alberto Antonini of Antinori and Antonio Morescalchi. As you may expect, the philosophy of the winery has always had an Italian feel, focusing on the individual terroirs of Mendoza and creating Malbecs that are slightly crisper and more food friendly. When I met Antonio Morescalchi a few years back he said, “We are Italian. We cannot imagine food without wine or wine without food.” Their Clasico Malbec, like all their wines, comes from the higher elevation parts of Mendoza, giving the wine noticeable brightness and red fruit flavors. Balanced with flavors of fresh plum and a hint of pepper, the wine leads into a long, smooth finish.
