Alasia Cortese, Piedmont, Italy 2019

The Alasia wines are the top cuvées produced by Araldica, chosen from some of the best vineyards around the Asti area of Piemonte. Araldica is Piemonte’s largest and most progressive co-operative. Led by winemaker/manager Claudio Manera, Araldica has been able to give many small grapegrowers access to the market without compromising quality. Their Cortese comes from the Monferrato hills south of Asti. The vineyards face southwest and lie between 250 and 400 meters in elevation where the soil is mostly clay and limestone. The grapes are fermented in stainless steel and then remain on the lees for 3 months to add a little texture. Fresh green apples and grapefruit hit the nose, followed by honeysuckle, almonds, and minerality. A classic Cortese and a great wine with cream sauce.
