Taste an all-time great Lambrusco Weds. 3/20.

Sparkling red wine? Lambrusco!

Lambrusco is a gently sparkling red (mostly), rosé, and white wine with restrained alcohol that comes from the region of Emilia in northern Italy. It’s the land of Prosciutto di Parma and Parmigiano Reggiano, traditional balsamic vinegars, tagliatelle al ragù, and green lasagne, among many other iconic foods and dishes. And food-friendly Lambrusco is the only — the only! — wine that the Emilians pair with their food. Its versatility and freshness also make it pair wonderfully with different world cuisines like Asian and Mexican.

The grape name and wine name “Lambrusco” comes from the Latin labrusca or “wild grape.” Some believe that Lambrusco could be Italy’s oldest wine. It gets its sparkle from the “tank method” or “Martinotti method” also known as the “Charmat method”: Pressurized tanks are used during the second fermentation to capture the wine’s bubbles.

Next Wednesday, we will be hosting one of the all-time great producers of Lambrusco Alberto Paltrinieri. He will be pouring his rosé Lambrusco made from the Sorbara clone. It’s a grape with such light color that, even when made as a red wine, is pink in hue. Don’t miss this opportunity to taste with a Lambrusco great!
