No, that’s not an AI-generated image.

It’s the beauty of Puglia, framed by classic Mediterranean architecture at the Bocca di Lupo winery.

The southern Italian region of Puglia — or Apulia, as it is known in English, the “heel” of Italy’s “boot” — is widely known for its beautiful Baroque architecture, its 1,000-year-old olive trees, and its breathtaking landscapes.

What a lot of folks don’t realize about Puglia is that its subsoil is made of limestone. Yes, limestone, the magical soil type that is found in more famous appellations like Burgundy and Barolo, among others.

Puglia is a narrow peninsula at the top of the Mediterranean basin. It’s flat and extremely well-aerated and the warmth of the Mediterranean sun is tempered by the sea breeze that constantly caresses this ancient land.

Add to that mix limestone and you have the ideal confluence of climate, exposure, subsoil, and human tradition that make for uniquely terroir-driven wines.

On Wednesday, we’ll be pouring four wines from the Antinori family’s Bocca di Lupo winery (see the lineup below). This property was once part of their Tormaresca estate. But they found its wines to be so compelling that they decided to make it an autonomous winery. The idea behind this project is to show Puglia’s immense potential for viticultural excellence.

We know you are going to enjoy these value-driven wines. Thanks for your support.
