Founded in 1991, Pride Mountain Vineyards sits high on Spring Mountain, straddling the Napa–Sonoma county line at elevations approaching 2,100 feet. This rugged, rocky site is central to Pride’s identity. Thin volcanic soils, dramatic diurnal shifts, and meticulous farming yield wines of natural concentration, firm mountain structure, and remarkable freshness. Pride has long championed estate bottling, low yields, and patient élevage, crafting wines built not for flash but for longevity and nuance.
Pride’s Merlot is a benchmark for the variety in California. 2017
A warm, generous vintage yielding wines of depth and seduction. Pride’s mountain fruit delivered a decadent profile marked by ripe black cherry, plum, and cassis, layered with baking spice and floral aromatics. The tannins are abundant yet beautifully integrated, giving immediate appeal with a long, graceful arc of aging ahead.
2018
A standout year for balance and precision. Moderate temperatures allowed for extended hang time, resulting in wines with vibrant acidity, polished tannins, and classic proportions. Expect an “old-school California” feel: dark fruit framed by savory herbs, graphite, and mountain freshness.
2019
Lower yields concentrated the fruit while preserving elegance. Similar in spirit to 2018, but with added intensity and drive. The wines show greater mid-palate weight, darker fruit expression, and a mineral edge that underscores their mountain origin and long-term aging potential.
