A note from Brett:
Few grapes inspire as much devotion—and debate—as Pinot Noir. Thin-skinned and notoriously finicky, Pinot Noir is exquisitely sensitive to site, climate, and human touch. It thrives in cooler regions, where long growing seasons allow it to develop nuance rather than brute force, yielding wines that emphasize texture, perfume, and transparency over sheer power.
In the cellar, Pinot Noir can take many paths: from crisp, red-fruited and stainless-steel–driven expressions to deeply layered, oak-influenced wines that reward patience and contemplation. It can even shape-shift entirely, lending elegance and structure to sparkling wines and offering a fascinating counterpoint when compared to close relatives like Pinot Gris.
This Wine Wednesday explores the remarkable versatility of Pinot through four distinct examples, spanning sparkling, New World, Alsatian tradition, and classic Burgundy. We’re also thrilled to welcome back former Boulder Wine Merchant manager Jen Burger de Jimenez, now with Republic National Distributing—back behind the table, pouring wine, sharing stories, and selling bottles. Some reunions are worth raising a glass to.
