When it comes to picking wines for the holiday weekend, “think of Thanksgiving more like a cocktail party with your best friends and family,” says Brett. “Make the selection delicious but not fussy and try something new this year to make it interesting!”

One of the issues that can complicate Thanksgiving wine pairings is that it’s virtually impossible to find the perfect wine for such a wide variety of flavors on the table.

“Don’t try to match the ideal wine with the perfect dish,” he says. “I can think of so many times I’ve picked an Alsatian wine or a Grenache Blanc for a given dish. But at the end of the day, that wine was drunk three hours before the food was served!”

Here at the Boulder Wine Merchant, we are ready to help in any way we can. And we have a wide range of featured-for-Thanksgiving wines that are accessible and delicious, with or without food.

But we also encourage you to try something new this year.

A vermouth for a low-alcohol cocktail to welcome your guests?

A dessert wine to go with classic holiday desserts?

“Alsatian wines are some of my favorites to serve at Thanksgiving,” says Brett. “They go so well with squash and autumn foods. But I also love a Sardinian Cannonau or a Tuscan Sangiovese because they are so friendly to stuffing and rich, full-flavored dishes like turkey and gravy.”

Happy Thanksgiving! Thanks for all your support in 2024!
