A bright purple hue introduces this cheerful and very light-bodied wine. J. Lohr’s Valdiguié displays inviting fresh raspberry, cranberry, and pomegranate aromas, with a bit of black pepper and hibiscus. Fresh and snappy flavors of red grapes and berries lead to a mouthwatering finish. Beaujolais-like, the Valdiguié vines planted in California were believed to be Gamay until genetic analysis proved otherwise. It is best served slightly chilled as an aperitif. It will be a lovely accompaniment to a Thanksgiving spread, since it doesn’t have any tannins to get in the way of your food pairings. Or add a touch of soda water and an orange slice to pretend that it’s springtime.
