Siro Pacenti “Pelagrilli” Brunello di Montalcino 2019

Giancarlo Pacenti crafts lovely, traditionally-styled Brunello. His “Pelagrini” is produced from estate vineyards ranging from 25 to 35 years old, mostly on the north side of Montalcino. Following vinification, the wine ages in 225-liter French oak for 24 months prior to further aging in bottle. This 2019 possesses a medium garnet hue with a sheer rim. It wafts from the glass with expressive notes reminiscent of sour red cherries, juniper berries, freshly chopped firewood, and scorched orange peel. The palate is acked with vivid black cherry, black currant and plum with a vibrant acidity to focus the fruit. It has a medium body with finely grained tannins and a long finish. This classic Brunello from a good vintage is enjoyable now, especially with beef, and will age beautifully over the coming decade. This wine received 97 points in Wine Spectator. Regularly priced at $102 per bottle, this is quite a deal.
