Volver ‘Madame Bobalu’ Bobal 2019
Rafael Cañizares founded Volver in 2004 with the goal of reviving indigenous Spanish grapes and old vineyards. In August we brought you “Wrongo Dongo” Monastrell, with its memorable mustachioed character on the front label. This month we are featuring Mr. Dongo’s sidekick Madame Bobalu. This elegant lady is made from 100% Bobal from Valencia, Spain. Bobal has traditionally been a blending grape native to this area, but in recent years has proven that it is more than capable of standing on its own. Brilliant ruby red in colour with a nose of dried red fruit, blackberries, licorice, and plums. The palate follows with sweet and subtly toasted spices thanks to the time spent in the barrel. Hearty but balanced.
