Umani Ronchi ‘Casal di Serra’ Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi, Marche 2019

Verdicchio is perhaps Italy’s most underrated grape. When made by the right producer and in one of a few sub-regions of the Marche, this electric white grape is capable of producing wines with intensity and complexity that can match the greatest regions on the planet. The vines for the Casal di Serra are between eight and thirty years old and planted between 200 and 350 meters above sea level, with climate influence from the Adriatic Sea. The harvest is done by hand and yields are a stunning 7 tons per hectare, ensuring depth and concentration in the wines. The vinification is traditional and takes place in stainless steel with extended contact on the lees for added richness and structure. These wines are brilliant with fish, roasted chicken and pork, and cow’s or sheep’s milk cheeses.
