Produttori del Barbaresco ‘Montestefano’ Barbaresco Riserva 2014
At the turn of the 19th century, nine vineyard owners decided to come together and create the first collective in Barbaresco. After a period of being disbanded the group came back together in 1958, this time with 19 growers. At this time there are 56 growers representing over 250 acres of some of the best vineyards in Barbaresco. Produttori del Barbaresco is dedicated to only the production of Nebbiolo and produces a Barbaresco from a blend of their nine single vineyards. In the best years they will produce the single vineyards under their rightful names. In 2014, though it was a challenging and wet vintage, Produttori produced their Riserva wines and it is a year where we find elegance and restraint. The “Montestefano” is considered the “Barolo of Barbaresco” according to Aldo Vacca, the current winemaker at Produttori. It is a wine that delivers more weight, density of fruit, and structure than some of the other crus while still maintaining the finesse typical of Barbaresco. This wine, while gorgeous now, could thrive for another 10+ years in the cellar.
