Pormenor Rose, Douro 2019
Pormenor was established in 2013 by three friends – José Silva, Miguel Cardozo and Pedro Coelho. From the beginning they wanted to do things differently. Although the Douro is best known for producing Port wine and heavy reds, for their first vintage they only released two white wines. Eventually they expanded into a full range of wines, including this luscious rose. In the spirit of doing things a little differently, they soaked the grape juice on the skins for 24 hours to extract a richer fruit profile. The juice was then left to ferment spontaneously and aged in used French barrels. This is a very versatile and age-worthy rose; good by itself but excellent with food, and full of fresh strawberries, cherries, and minerality.
