Konkelberg Rouge, South Africa 2018
Longridge Wine Estate, the maker of Konkelberg, is situated in the Stellenbosch region on the slopes of the Helderberg mountain range. The farm was first registered in 1841 and underwent a few name changes before finally being called Longridge in 1992, when they shifted into commercial wine production. Konkelberg is their introductory red blend, made from 80% Shiraz and 20% Cabernet Franc. All the grapes are organically grown and hand sorted before destemming. After fermenting with wild yeasts the wine matures in French oak barrels for 17 months. Aromas of black cherries, raspberries, and plums lead into notes of fresh flowers, vanilla, and baking spices to make a bold and delicious red blend.
