GD Vajra Langhe Rosso 2019
The Vajra family has farmed Bricco delle Viole, the highest cru in Comune di Barolo, since the 1880s. When Aldo Vajra took over in 1968 – at the young age of fifteen – he reimagined what the estate was capable of. His numerous accomplishments include acquiring the first organic certification of the region, creating private biotype selections (selezioni massali) of Nebbiolo and Dolcetto, pioneering the renaissance of Freisa, and cultivating Riesling. Vajra’s Langhe Rosso is a blend of native Piemontese varieties, including Nebbiolo, Barbera, Dolcetto, and the rare heirloom Freisa, and Albarossa. A predominance of red fruits give this wine an elegant purity and lift, leading into a refreshing finish with hints of mint and balsamic.
