Bodegas La Purisima ‘Consentido’ Monastrell Barrica, Yecla, Spain 2017
Bodegas La Purísima was founded in 1946 by several farmers who joined forces in order to improve the quality of Yecla wines. Yecla is surrounded by Jumilla to the south and east, Almansa to the north, and Alicante to the east, and is metaphorically overshadowed by all of them. But Yecla is capable of growing Monastrell as well as any of its neighbors. This wine comes from a rigorous selection of vineyards over 25 years of age, harvested during the first week of October. After vatting, the grapes were left for three days at a low temperature, enabling all the aromas of the Monastrell variety to be drawn out. The wine was then transferred to new barrels where it was aged for three months to acquire its smooth, elegant taste of oak.
